Food Trauma

by

We all have parenting horror stories. Some kids have choked on something, had as child fall off a high bed or couch or had a bad fall.

Our story was about a cranberry. One that was placed in her nose by our daughter, R.
She was just two and not only did she sick the dried cranberry up her nose but she stuck it waaaay up there. I couldn’t get it out, she didn’t know how to blow her nose yet, so that wasn’t helping.
I finally had to bring her to the doctor.
He got them out with some lubricant and a loooong skinny pair of tweezers.

That taught her a lesson she still remembers.
Food is only for our mouths.
Now if I can only get her to put more of it in her mouth then on her shirt!

I have a tip to share. I had a two year old who LOVED sticking peas up her nose. Not just once, but multiple times if I wasn’t watching her very closely.

The first time it happened, I was freaking out. Didn’t know what to do. It was in too far to get with a fingernail (we’re moms the nail from a pinky can be a lifesaver for kids with things in their nose!)

Lie the child on a table. Plug the nostril that has nothing in it. Cover the child’s mouth with your own mouth and blow hard. The puff of air goes into the nasal passage and expels the item in the nose. You may have to use a lubricant for larger items, I only had to deal with peas, but I know it saved me a lot of grief after hearing that tip.

To top that my son clipped a Ped’s Dispenser onto his penis! Why would he do that? He said, “to see if he could get the Pez out with his penis.”

I am sure when he grows up he will know that would not be impressive to the girls.

I want to know who Tracy thought of that “tip”!!
