A NJ Mom Gives Birth to Twins
On Tuesday a mother gave birth to twins at Hackensack University Hospital. So? Even I did that, at that very hospital.
This birth will go into the record books though because the mom was 60 years old!
60 year old Frieda Birnbaum gave birth to twin boys via caesarean section is the oldest woman to give birth to twins in the United States.
She has three other children ranging in ages from six to thirty three years old.
She says she is wonderful and her boys are doing very well.
What do you think of being a mom again, to twins no less at 60 years old?
twins, oldest woman gives birth to twins, older moms, parenting, moms, late life parenting, newborns

All I can really say is wow! Me personally I have a time limit on how long I want to have kids and it definetly is not that old. I think thats a bit extreme because you won’t get to give them your entire being…even if you make it to being a grandma to their kids you won’t get to do much with them and you won’t probably see great grand kids or really even get to watch those grand kids grow. I just think its not really fair to them. I dunno if this is mean or what but I don’t think someone at that age can really handle twins. I am not trying to be nasty it just doesn’t seem logical to me.

Well they weren’t her eggs, because that is impossible. I thought 28 was too old to keep up with my twins, so what do I know?

It’s a bit of a selfish act. The record which was broken was for the oldest mother to give birth to twins in the US. In researching my blog entry on the subject, (see http://oldold.blogspot.com) I covered some of the technical bits about this record. In the end, it is a non-story, analogous to a climb, at some certain record-breaking age, to the top of Mt. Mckinley, but then once lost in the snow and requiring a rescue team to be brought back to safety. A record indeed for that age and that mountain, but creating a great risk and expense to others.

Dave, I do think sometimes deciding on becoming a parent is a very selfish act.
