Halloween Crafts

Halloween is one holiday that we prepare for but creeps up on me. The kids get wishy washy about their costumes, although this year we are doing pretty well and both kids have their costumes already. It also has been so warm here in NJ that I haven’t been in the fall/Halloween mood. Today it is finally cool and I am officially going to start doing some Halloween crafts with the kids.
I have listed some ideas here for you to do with your children to prepare for this fun season.

Paint Pumpkins- if your children are too small to carve a pumpkin but they still want to participate, get a small pumpkin for them to paint. You can make a “theme” by having them paint all one color and you paint the added touches like brown for a football and use white paint for the laces, or white for a baseball and use red for the stitching. Paint the pumpkin the colors of your favorite football team or go standard and paint silly faces on them.

Make ghost jewelry- Using waxed paper, spread some white glue out making it into a ghost shape. Take a paperclip and bend into a V shape and place the ends into the top o fthe ghost. This will be your hanger. Make eyes with cut out circles from black paper or googly eyes.
Let the ghost dry for a day or so.
When it is dry peel it off the wax paper and hang it on a piece of yarn or ribbon for a spooky necklace or bracelet.

Make your own magic wand or fairy wand. Use the cardboard tubes from the drycleaner pants hanger. Decorate the tubes with scrapbooking or decorative tape. Cut out stars (2 for each wand) out of sturdy paper like construction paper and glue them together on the end of the wand.
Add curling ribbons, stickers, glitter and whatever your child wants to their new wand. Perfect for dress up or for a costume.
